On April 1st, Odesa celebrated April Fool's Day in the city garden, featuring performances by actors from the theater 'Masks'.
According to a correspondent from Ukrinform.
The performers sang, danced, and recited poetry. A humorous quiz was also held, with tickets to 'Masks' shows up for grabs.
«We live in a world where positivity is often lacking... When negativity rises, so does the need for joy. We know how to make people happy. I see the change in people's faces before and after our performances – they are completely different. Many audience members have told me that thanks to our shows, they smiled for the first time in years. A people who remember how to laugh cannot be defeated,» said Boris Barsky, director of the theater 'Masks'.
Actor Oleksandr Postolenko noted that the need for laughter is always present among Odesa residents, especially during wartime.
«Everyone needs to distract themselves. Of course, we must not forget that there is a war. We need to support each other. You cannot forbid love, the birth of children, and laughter. Laughter is a vital aspect of our lives,» the artist said.
Since the 1970s, Odesa has traditionally hosted Humorina on April 1st, founded by the KVN team 'Business People'. The first Humorina featured celebrations at the stadium, carnival parades, film comedies, concerts, and competitions.
In 2014, Humorina was canceled due to the difficult situation in the country. However, in 2017, thousands walked through the city in funny costumes once again. During the pandemic, the event was held online.
In 2022, despite the start of the full-scale invasion by Russia, Odesa residents held Humorina-Dzhavilina, with a charity online marathon supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine as the central event.
In 2023, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Humorina, Odesa residents were greeted by actors from 'Masks' and the National Guard orchestra. In 2025, 'Masks' organized an 'economy option' Humorina in the city garden.
