It has been 60 years since Odessa and Yokohama became sister cities.
A week-long celebration is taking place in Odessa to honor this milestone.
Today, the I.Ya. Franko Central Library hosted events that immersed visitors in the enchanting world of Japanese culture.
Creative children's groups from Odessa showcased the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Japan.
The Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Masashi Nakagome, emphasized his country's unwavering support for Ukraine and the importance of cultural ties in strengthening friendship.
The Yokohama city hall also contributed to the festivities with a video presentation, allowing guests to learn more about our sister city.
“Odessa proudly calls Japan a friend. Over the past 60 years, we have built significant relationships that exemplify stable international friendship,” said Ivan Liptuga, Director of the Department of International Cooperation.
Yokohama provides crucial humanitarian assistance to Odessa and supports exchanges in art and sports. Together, we are restoring infrastructure after the war and developing a recovery plan.
This is a story of true friendship that transcends borders and cultural differences.
Odessans can express their gratitude by exploring Japanese culture and cherishing our partnership.
