Mariluise Beck, a prominent German politician and director for Eastern and Central Europe at the Center for Liberal Modernity, received an Honorary Badge from the Mayor of Odessa, «ODESSA», for her significant humanitarian work, support for the people of Odessa during wartime, and strengthening international collaboration.
Her initiative to establish the memorial «Against Forgetting» on Lustdorf Road, where over 25,000 individuals, mainly Jews and Roma, were burned alive in 1941, marks a critical step in preserving memory.
To implement this project, a grant of one million euros was secured. However, due to the ongoing war, the work has been postponed, and the funds redirected to humanitarian needs in the city.
This allowed Odessa to receive transport, specialized equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other essential resources.
The city authorities express gratitude for the support and hope for the resumption of pre-war projects and continued cooperation for the development of Odessa.
