Innovations in Minimally Invasive Surgery

The City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Odessa has launched a cutting-edge department for minimally invasive surgical procedures. This department, located in the renovated main building, is equipped with the latest medical technology, allowing surgeons to perform operations in line with the latest European protocols.

Every week, over 40 surgeries are performed, with approximately 80% being minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. The specialists carry out endoscopic interventions on various organs such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, thyroid gland, bladder, lungs, esophagus, uterus, and ovaries. Additionally, minor surgical procedures are conducted via percutaneous punctures guided by ultrasound.

Last year, more than 5400 operations were performed, including 873 trauma surgeries, 847 gynecological surgeries, 441 urological surgeries, 511 ENT surgeries, 311 thoracic surgeries, and 126 vascular surgeries.

Key advantages of minimally invasive surgery:
- Reduced invasiveness: smaller incisions lead to less bleeding and pain post-surgery;
- Faster recovery: patients typically return to their normal lives much quicker than with traditional surgery;
- Improved cosmetic outcomes: smaller scars and a lower likelihood of complications.
