New Photo Exhibition on Planetary Ecosystems

image

On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition highlighting the beauty and fragility of our planet will open in Odesa, at 2 Soborna Square.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition, titled "Planet 'on the Grill': Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon," is a collaborative Ukrainian-Peruvian project that combines images from two contrasting ecosystems: the hot Amazonian forests and the icy expanse of Antarctica.

It features 36 photographs presented in pairs, showcasing the shared challenges faced by both regions: human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and stunning beauty.

The Amazon photographs are captured by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, with most taken in 2024.

The Antarctic images are created by Ukrainian photographers who have worked on the frozen continent between 2019 and 2024.

Scientists have noted that both ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. Record droughts in the humid Amazon forests and melting glaciers in Antarctica are symptoms of the same illness — climate change.

The photographs reveal the current state of these ecosystems and how local plants and animals are responding.

The exhibition will open on April 24 at 18:00 in the "Dialogues" gallery at 2 Soborna.

Director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, Yevhen Dykhyi, will participate in the opening.

The venue is located in a basement, providing a level of protection.

The exhibition will run until May 3, and entry is free.
