An important meeting of the Barrier-Free Council took place in Odessa under the city mayor.
The event featured veterans, representatives of public organizations, experts from the Barrier-Free Council, city department heads, ambassadors of the "Movement Without Barriers" project, and specialists from education, healthcare, and social sectors.
During the meeting, key initiatives implemented in the first half of 2025 were presented. Among them were ensuring barrier-free access to city beaches, creating the first barrier-free route in Odessa, and actively developing adaptive sports, particularly canoeing.
"We are not just removing barriers — we are building a new culture of urban space. Over these six months, we have implemented concrete solutions: from access to beaches and transportation to involving people with disabilities in management processes. But the most important thing is the trust of the community. It is this trust that gives us the strength to keep working and expanding the boundaries of what is possible," said Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
A work plan for the Council for the second half of 2025 was also approved.
"By announcing our plans for the second half of the year, we clearly understand that everything we have planned is achievable. Behind each point stands a specific team, deadlines, and accountability," emphasized the Deputy Head of the Barrier-Free Council Alexey Morozov.
The meeting concluded with a summary: Odessa confidently maintains its course towards the systematic expansion of barrier-free spaces in infrastructure, services, culture, and attitudes.
"At the recently opened inclusive beach at the 11th station of the Great Fountain - Beach 11 - more than 100 individuals with various needs relax daily. This is proof that our city is becoming comfortable for everyone, and we will continue to develop all areas," stressed acting Deputy Mayor Sergei Kotsyuba.
