On Monday morning, October 20, numerous major applications and websites experienced significant malfunctions. According to Independent, services such as Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Canva were affected.
The issues began around 10 AM Kyiv time, which is midnight Pacific time.
Reports from DownDetector suggest that the disruptions are likely linked to a problem within Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides the infrastructure for a large portion of today's internet.
The company has already reported an increase in errors and delays across several AWS services.
Amazon Web Services offers a wide range of internet infrastructure services that allow businesses to lease computers and servers to run their applications and websites.
Consequently, any issues within AWS can rapidly impact a significant portion of the internet, causing failures on websites that may not have any obvious connection to Amazon.
Currently, AWS is the leading provider of such cloud services worldwide.
Last year, the company generated $108 billion in revenue, and now it accounts for a large share of Amazon's profits.
Amazon Web Services stated that they are still investigating the cause of the issues.
“Engineers have been promptly engaged and are actively working on both resolving the issue and fully understanding its root cause,” reads the company’s latest update.
