image

Starting from November 1, restrictions on fishing in wintering holes will be implemented in the Odesa region to protect aquatic resources during the winter season.
A wintering hole is a deep area of water bodies where fish gather during cold weather. The boundaries of these holes are defined according to the Rules of Amateur and Industrial Fishing in the Black Sea basin.

Fishing in wintering holes is prohibited:

  • any industrial fishing;
  • amateur and sport fishing, even from the shore;
  • movement of vehicles or motor boats.

According to paragraph 4 of subsection 3 of Rule IV of Amateur Fishing, during the ice cover, the use of fishing gear with hooks spaced more than 10 mm apart is prohibited.
Violations may incur fines ranging from 34 to 680 UAH, with restitution for damages. For significant harm, criminal liability may apply, with fines ranging from 17,000 to 85,000 UAH, or imprisonment for up to three years with restitution for damages.
The Odesa Fish Protection Patrol urges adherence to the law. Violations can be reported at the hotline number: (098) 798-47-93.
