Snakes in Odessa: Myths and Reality

image

Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in encounters with snakes in Odessa, particularly on beaches and in estuaries. Igor Bilyakov, the director of the Odessa Zoo, emphasizes that there are no venomous snakes in our city.

According to Igor Bilyakov, there are only four species of snakes in Odessa: the common and water snakes, as well as the Sarmatian and yellow-bellied snakes. However, there’s no need to panic as these creatures pose no threat.

Even when a yellow-bellied snake bit Igor Bilyakov, it did not lead to any serious consequences. The zoo director urges people not to fear snakes and not to harm them.

“Leave the snake alone; it won’t harm you,” says Igor Bilyakov. If you find a snake in your car or home, you can call Igor Bilyakov at 068 04 04 539. He is ready to help.
