In August 2025, the Executive Committee of the Odesa City Council made a decision to hold a competition for the best project proposal for a monument to Lesya Ukrainka in the city of Odesa, along with the improvement of the surrounding area.
The organizer of the competition is the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Land Relations of the Odesa City Council.
The goal of the competition is to identify the best project proposal for a monument to the outstanding Ukrainian writer and poetess, as well as an architectural solution for the improvement of the park's territory.
The competition was held in one round until January 30, 2026, inviting professional architects, sculptors, designers, students from architectural and construction universities, project organizations, authors' teams, and specialists in urban planning and architecture. Authors' teams could include specialists from other fields with experience in creating monumental art objects.
The Department of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Land Relations has now summarized the results of the competition for the best project proposal for the monument to Lesya Ukrainka in Odesa.
A total of 12 project proposals were submitted for the competition.
The jury recommends the project that took first place for the development of project and cost documentation and subsequent implementation.
The first place went to the project proposal under the motto No. 201953 (authors: sculptor Mykola Bylyk, architects Andriy Korstruba, Maria Matushenko, Oleksandr Vovk).
Second place was awarded to the project proposal under the motto No. 704020 (authors: sculptors Viktor Lipovka, Oleksandra Ruban, architects Andriy Danylenko, Kateryna Lipovka).
Third place went to the project under the motto No. 250271 (authors: sculptor Anastasia Kozminska, architects Mykola Chepelev, Mykola Volkov).
According to the competition's terms and program, monetary awards will be granted to the author teams.
The decision of the Odesa City Council "On Erecting a Local Significance Monument to Lesya Ukrainka in the City of Odesa" has determined the location for the monument in the park at the intersection of Fontanska Road and Lesya Ukrainka Avenue (formerly Gagarin Avenue).
