On August 19, 2025, an important meeting took place in Odesa to identify new sites for mobile shelters in areas of high pedestrian traffic, following instructions from Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The meeting was led by acting Deputy Mayor Serhiy Kotsyuba and advisor for barrier-free space Oleksiy Morozov.
Participants included representatives from key departments: Director of the Department of Education Olena Buinevych, Director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy Olena Kytainska, and Director of the Department of Internal Policy Oleksandr Zhiltsov.
“Our goal is to ensure safe environments for Odesa residents in places they frequent daily. It is crucial to swiftly identify new locations and confirm the compliance of shelters with all requirements,” emphasized Serhiy Kotsyuba.
Key issues included verifying the compliance of existing mobile shelters with established standards and selecting priority locations near areas with high public gatherings.
“Barrier-free access in safety matters is essential. Mobile shelters must be accessible for persons with disabilities and all reduced mobility groups — from approaches and navigation to internal space,” highlighted Oleksiy Morozov.
Following the meeting, the relevant departments will prepare proposals regarding the locations and provide consolidated information about the technical condition and compliance of mobile shelters with requirements.
