Enhancing Odessa's Street Lighting: Achievements and Challenges

image

The specialists of the Municipal Enterprise «Odesmisksvitlo» are continuously engaged in repairing street lighting in the city’s streets, parks, and squares, as well as addressing emergency situations.

Regular inspections are conducted of street lighting facilities (poles, distribution cabinets, lamps, etc.) to identify malfunctioning or damaged elements, alongside acts of vandalism. The electricians carry out cable network upgrades, replace old lamps and brackets, and trim trees that interfere with the electrical networks.

Over the course of 11 months in 2024, as part of the ongoing repairs, 2390 lamps and 380 brackets were replaced, and 75003 meters of cabling were updated.

Employees also trimmed 7632 trees that were damaging the electrical networks.

Moreover, the specialists of «Odesmisksvitlo» conducted works on replacing street lighting poles.

Often, due to emergency situations (bad weather, traffic accidents, etc.) or after the lifespan of the street lighting poles has expired, they become unusable. Replacing poles is a labor-intensive process that requires special equipment (cranes).

Since the beginning of 2024, 64 emergency poles have been replaced, 10 of which were damaged due to traffic accidents.

Additionally, in October of this year, an act of vandalism was recorded on the Health Trail. Unknown individuals damaged the equipment of 10 poles. Automatic switches and terminal box covers were stolen, as well as cables being torn out.
