Odessa's Energy Initiative: Gas Generation Project

The municipality of Odessa, in collaboration with the Japanese government and UNDP, is implementing a new project that involves the construction of gas turbine generation facilities with a total capacity of about 30 MW.

This initiative is part of the decentralization of energy resources to enhance the resilience and security of power supply in Odessa.

The first cogeneration unit is already operational, supplying energy to one of the city's heating plants.

«This unit can produce 3.3 MW per hour. The heating plant needs about half of that. We plan to redirect the surplus to support other critical infrastructure facilities», - noted the Mayor of Odessa.

Currently, work is underway to connect three more units that have already arrived in Odessa.
In total, the UNDP project will result in the manufacture of 9 units with a combined capacity of 30 MW.

Additionally, 7 cogeneration units have arrived from the German Agency GIZ. They will be installed at district heating plants, with two already in the connection process. Components for connecting the remaining five are expected soon.
