Recently, a delegation led by Ulrika Modeer, Secretary General of the Swedish Red Cross, visited Odesa as part of the cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.
The delegation toured the Social and Psychological Assistance Center, which offers support to internally displaced persons and individuals affected by conflict.
Julia Haidary, Director of the Social Services Center of the Odesa City Council, and Lyudmila Tsvitkova, head of the Social and Psychological Assistance Center, briefed the Swedish Red Cross representatives on the Center’s operations and the fruitful collaboration with the Odesa regional organization of the Red Cross of Ukraine. Thanks to this partnership, displaced individuals receive ongoing social and psychological support, participating in joint events aimed at their adaptation in a new living environment.
At the end of the visit, Ulrika Modeer emphasized the importance of building local capacity.
Additional Information
As of December 15, 2023, following renovations funded by the city budget, the Social and Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons commenced operations in Odesa. Since its opening, 266 individuals have resided in the Center, including 97 children, 38 elderly individuals, and 20 persons with disabilities.
During its operation, the Center's specialists provided 178 legal consultations, 534 psychological consultations, and 469 individual consultations for adults; social support was given to 70 families/individuals in difficult life situations; and 65 psychological group sessions were conducted for children and adults.
