In Odesa, two key maritime educational institutions will merge. This decision was made during a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and the leadership of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and the Odesa National Maritime University.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, met with the heads of the universities where participants agreed on the necessity of integrating the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" and the Odesa National Maritime University into a single educational entity.

During the meeting, they discussed the timeline for the merger, who would oversee the process, and other crucial aspects of establishing the new educational institution based on both universities.

The primary aim of this move is to create a strong, modern maritime university in Ukraine and improve the overall maritime education system.

It was previously reported that the maritime academy is expected to join the maritime university, which faced opposition from the academy's leadership.

More details on the arguments against the merger and the position of the National University OMA can be found in the article: Will Odesa be left without higher maritime education? The "academy" is planned to merge with the "water" institution.
