An open expert dialogue on the modernization of physical education took place in Ukraine. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in collaboration with the Small Academy of Sciences, JuniorS, UNIT.City, and NGO "Education 360". This is part of the "Education for Life" strategy that supports the New Ukrainian School reform. All participants discussed new methodologies for teaching physical education.
The event was opened by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, who emphasized the need to adapt physical education to contemporary challenges such as war and pandemic. She noted that the outcomes of the meeting will be incorporated into new concepts to be released in 2025. Pilot testing of the new educational contents will commence in the fall of 2025.
The program included two panel discussions. The first one, focusing on the goals of physical education, was moderated by Oleksandr Pedan, who conducted a Q&A session with teachers alongside ministry representatives.
“Physical education in schools is not just a lesson; it is the foundation for a healthy future. It should inspire every student while considering their individuality,” stated the Deputy Minister.
The second discussion addressed how physical education should prepare students for life in a changing world. Representatives from various organizations participated in this discussion.
- Kostyantyn Yevtushenko — managing partner at Unit.city;
- Oleksandr Sekirin — founder of the "All Stars" dance school;
- Maria Pavlichuk — co-founder of NGO "JuniorS".
Experts stressed the importance of practical knowledge in physical education so that students can develop healthy habits.
After the discussions, participants shared their experiences and worked on specific solutions to modernize physical education.
This initiative is part of a broader consultation process involving educators, parents, and students. The Ministry plans to hold more meetings, which can be found on the website educationforlife.mon.gov.ua in the section "For whom?".
