A repeat offender snatched a phone from his victim, initially offering assistance in navigating the city. He will spend seven years behind bars for his actions.

Recall that the incident occurred in February of this year in the Primorsky district of Odesa. During lunchtime, a local resident noticed a disoriented elderly man who had come to the regional center from Berezivka on business. Pretending to be friendly, the criminal offered to show the necessary route to the 62-year-old man, and at the right moment, he snatched the mobile phone sticking out of the man's pocket.

The police quickly tracked down the offender in a nearby block and recovered the stolen phone, which was returned to its owner.

At the time of the robbery, the 39-year-old Odesa resident already had previous convictions for property crimes and drug offenses. During the investigation, the court imposed a preventive measure of detention with the option of bail, which he did not utilize.

After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the individual under part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning open theft of someone else's property, i.e., robbery committed under martial law. Following the conclusion of the pre-trial investigation, which was supervised by the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office, the authorities sent the indictment to the court.

After reviewing the materials, the court found the defendant guilty of robbery and sentenced him to seven years of imprisonment.
