The Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held a working meeting with the Secretary-General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Mr. Mohamed Mezghani, during the InnoTrans 2024 transportation exhibition in Berlin.
During the meeting, they addressed various challenges that Odessa has faced in recent years: the need to upgrade the rolling stock of electric transport and buses, the increasing load on the transportation network due to rising passenger numbers, issues of inclusion, the shift to cashless payments, and blackout risks.
Mr. Mezghani expressed his full support and willingness to assist Odessa in addressing transportation issues. He noted that UITP brings together over 1900 members from more than 100 countries, including city administrations, operating organizations, and transport operators.
As a result of the discussions, it was decided that Odessa would submit a request for bus fleet renewal, and UITP would assist in implementing it as part of humanitarian aid.
Additionally, both sides agreed to participate in a joint stand for the cities of Odessa and Hamburg at the international UITP Summit in Hamburg next year.
