Memorial Day for Fallen Healthcare Workers

In the fight for human lives, nothing stopped them – their hearts have ceased.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health.

On July 10, Ukraine observes the first Memorial Day for fallen healthcare workers. This initiative was launched by the team of the St. Panteleimon Order. It was established this year to honor the memory of healthcare workers who died during the full-scale war.

Healthcare professionals at the front and in frontline areas, who saved our soldiers under fire. Healthcare workers in the rear, who worked during alarms, in operating rooms without power, in bomb shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of little and adult Ukrainians. Unfortunately, many lost their own lives. And there are hundreds of such medical workers.

According to the St. Panteleimon Order, over three years of the great war, Russia has killed at least 500 Ukrainian healthcare workers. These include doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics. They became targets for the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms, in offices, on the streets, at home, on their way to work.

To preserve the memory of each fallen individual, the St. Panteleimon Order is implementing the project “Light of Memory,” aimed at honoring healthcare workers who gave their lives while fulfilling their professional duties. Within this project, in collaboration with the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the deceased healthcare workers is being collected and systematized.

If you know of a fallen healthcare worker at the front or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send the information to the email address: medlib@library.gov.ua

Be sure to indicate in the subject of your email: “Light of Memory.”

Today, July 10, at 14:00, hospitals and medical institutions across Ukraine will sound a signal – the sound of a heart stopping. After that – a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen healthcare workers.

Let us remember. Let us thank. Let us honor.

Eternal and bright memory to the fallen healthcare workers.
