Tragedy in Odesa: Fires in Residential Buildings

A fire broke out in a residential building in the Primorsky district of Odesa, leaving one woman injured. Rescuers managed to carry her out from the smoke-filled apartment and hand her over to medical personnel.
According to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Odesa region, the fire started on the evening of January 19 in an apartment on the first floor of a two-story building on Kinny Street. Household items and personal belongings caught fire. During the firefighting operation, a woman born in 1964 was rescued.
"The woman suffered burns covering 30% of her body and is in moderate condition; rescuers carried her out of the building and handed her over to medical staff. Firefighters evacuated 4 people from the second floor, including 1 child.
Thanks to the firefighters' efforts, neighboring apartments were saved," the report added.
The suspected cause of the fire is a short circuit in the electrical system; the extent of damages is currently being assessed. A total of 28 firefighters and 8 units of fire equipment were involved in extinguishing the blaze.

On January 20, another fire occurred in a private residential house in the Peresyp district of Odesa, on Agronomichny Lane. Rescuers found the body of the deceased homeowner, born in 1993, at the scene.
The causes of the fire and the extent of damages are under investigation. Seven firefighters and 2 units of equipment were engaged in extinguishing the fire.
The State Emergency Service also collaborated with other agencies throughout the day. Notably:
in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi on Izmailska Street, rescuers assisted the police in opening the door of an apartment where the body of a deceased woman born in 1938 was discovered;
in the Primorsky district of Odesa on Shevchenko Avenue, emergency responders helped transport a sick woman to an ambulance.
