In the fourth year of the full-scale war, the demand for blood donations remains exceptionally high. Medical professionals understand the need for a constant supply of blood to save both defenders of Ukraine and civilian patients.
This week, the team at Primary Health Care Center No. 16 in Odesa conducted its twelfth joint blood donation event since the war began. About twenty donors visited the blood transfusion station, ready to share their strength to save others. One donation can save up to three lives.
“In our medical facility, we have already formed a group of regular donors. New participants join each time, and we encourage our friends, relatives, and patients to donate blood as well. We are ready to donate every two months — it’s safe, beneficial, and, of course, it is desperately needed by our defenders,” said the director of PHC No. 16, Hanna Pavlega.
Blood donation provides:
- prevention of cardiovascular diseases, thrombosis, heart attacks, and strokes;
- reduction of many types of cancers, especially those related to excess iron;
- renewal of the blood-forming system and the body as a whole;
- regular blood donors live 3-5 years longer;
- the ability to save others.
Currently, blood donation is a vital contribution to Ukraine's defense capabilities.
Up-to-date needs for blood donations by medical institutions in Odesa are shared on the Telegram channels “Odesa. Official” and “Donor Odesa” with the support of the Department of Information and Digital Solutions of the Odesa City Council.
Since the beginning of the war, approximately 13,500 blood donations have been made under the “Donor Odessa” project, saving thousands of lives!
The “Donor Odesa” project actively participates in the annual city charity initiative “Good Deeds Week.”
