Google has announced significant updates to several of its tools, including the feature «Results About You» and enhanced capabilities for removing unwanted images from search results.
As reported by The Tech crunch, the «Results About You» tool now allows users to request the removal of search results containing sensitive information such as phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses. It has also been expanded to include requests for removing data related to driver's licenses, passports, or social security numbers, according to the company.
Users can access this tool through the Google app by tapping on their Google account photo and selecting «Results About You». If it's the user's first time using the feature, they need to click «Get Started» and input their personal contact information for tracking. They will then be prompted to enter their government identification numbers. Existing users can add their IDs and choose which ones they want to monitor.
Once the information is confirmed, Google will automatically track search results and notify the user if it finds any results containing the specified information. It is important to note that removing this information from search results does not eliminate it from the internet entirely, but it can significantly enhance the privacy of your information.
The update will initially roll out in the United States within the next few days, with plans for broader implementation in other regions to follow.
Additionally, Google has simplified the process for requesting the removal of unwanted explicit images. Users now only need to click on the three dots next to an image, select «Remove Result», and confirm that «This image is sexually explicit». There is no longer a need to report images one by one, as users can now select and send requests for multiple images at once. Users can also track the status of all their requests in the «Results About You» section.
