A 22-year-old perpetrator was facilitating illegal border crossings for individuals wishing to leave the country. He has been charged and a preventive measure has been imposed. He faces imprisonment along with asset confiscation, according to police reports.
Law enforcement discovered that a resident of the Velykomykhailivka community was searching for men willing to leave the country illegally through social media. After finding two clients, the perpetrator offered them transport to the border with Moldova for $5,000 each. The service included recommendations for a 'safe' crossing at night, away from checkpoints. Meeting with the clients, the perpetrator drove them in his car to a border locality in the Rozdilna district.
The suspect was apprehended by police near the state border after delivering the men to their destination and receiving $10,000 from them. Money and the vehicle were seized as evidence. Since the sanctions for the charges against the suspect include asset confiscation, the court may order the vehicle's confiscation.
«The suspect has been informed of the charges for committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, involving the organization of illegal transportation of persons across the state border for selfish motives. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to nine years and asset confiscation. The court has ordered the suspect to be held in custody with the option for bail,» stated investigator Bondarenko Victoria.
