In Odessa, discussions are ongoing about the installation of a monument to Lesya Ukrainka. Currently, city council members are considering the possibility of placing the monument in Cosmonaut Park, which is planned to be named in honor of the famous poetess.
It is worth noting that the decision to erect the monument was approved by the committee on culture, tourism, and international relations back in spring. Various locations were initially considered, including Cosmonaut Park, Heroes Avenue (formerly Alexandrovsky), and Shevchenko Park.
Members of the historical and topographical commission reported that the location for the monument in Shevchenko Park is not suitable due to the proximity of an underground toilet and the construction of a café in that area.
«The site in Shevchenko Park is not ideal. A location near the Lanzheron arch was proposed. There are both positive and negative aspects. Nearby was an underground toilet, which has been purchased, and a café is planned. Whether there will be a café or not, it might be convenient near the monument. The monument will be too close to this building», – reported a commission member.
Therefore, representatives of the city are currently planning to install the monument in Cosmonaut Park, close to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which will be built on the site of an existing building.
