With the support of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, an important meeting was held at the Kyiv office of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and his deputy Hanna Pozdnyakova met with representatives of the South Korean company POSCO E&C, a global leader in infrastructure construction.
The corporation has already completed over 30 waste incineration plant projects worldwide. Hanna Pozdnyakova highlighted the invaluable experience gained from a plant built in Warsaw, which she visited during a business trip in March. This facility complies with European legislation and environmental standards that Ukraine aims to integrate into its national laws. The comprehensive waste management approach implemented in Warsaw serves as a model that Odesa seeks to adopt.
This meeting marked the first dialogue regarding the prospects of constructing a waste incineration plant in Odesa.
"We have strong ties with Ukraine and have already implemented projects in the metallurgical and agro-industrial sectors, particularly in Mykolaiv region, and we hope for further fruitful collaboration," stated Vice President of POSCO E&C Mr. Kim Yong Hyun.
The infrastructure project has already been approved by the relevant ministry and included in the city's heating supply scheme. Following negotiations, the parties agreed to work on the organizational and technical issues necessary for the project’s implementation.
"We have government support and all the prerequisites for implementing this important project for Odesa. I hope we can start it as soon as possible. Firstly, it is an environmental initiative, and secondly, it involves the construction of thermal and electrical generation, which is critically needed for our city," emphasized Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
