Barrier-Free Routes in Odesa: New Opportunities

image

Odessa is actively developing accessible routes as part of a national initiative. On August 20, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution that establishes clear guidelines for planning and equipping accessible transportation and pedestrian routes.

This document organizes the process and paves the way for scaling the initiative nationwide. Currently, 15 communities are participating in the pilot project of the Ministry of Development called "Movement Without Barriers".  The routes are being designed by local authorities in collaboration with architects, project managers, and NGOs.

The coordination of this process is handled by the Ministry of Development. Odessa consistently ranks among the leaders in implementing these measures.

During an online meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, the progress of the project in Odessa was discussed, particularly the update of the accessible route signage and the agreement on the project documentation for the first phase of its implementation.

"In cooperation with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is steadily moving towards the implementation of modern accessible solutions that make Odessa more accessible for everyone," noted Acting Deputy Mayor of Odessa, Serhii Kotsiuba.
