Among the attendees were Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klymenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa.
The President listened to a report from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Hennadii Popenko. The cemetery has already been equipped with sections for honorable burials, two columbaria have been constructed, and engineering networks and access roads have been laid. A parking lot and a shuttle service have been arranged for visitors, which is how the President arrived today.
A specific area has been designated for the burial of soldiers whose names remain unknown. An Alley of Limes is also being created here – a symbolic path of memory.
The uniqueness of the memorial lies in standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross modeled after Cossack monuments of the 15th–16th centuries will be installed, and after a year, a permanent gravestone in the form of a cross or plaque will be placed. The final choice will be made by the families of the deceased.
Today, five defenders were buried, whose names are currently unknown. The burial of unknown heroes will continue at the cemetery.
Memory of the fallen soldiers was honored with a moment of silence.
