Winter Preparedness of Odesa's Municipal Services

image

To enhance road safety and effectively respond to winter conditions, the municipal enterprise 'City Roads' in Odesa is conducting a series of measures.

Traditionally, from late November to early December, the municipal services complete street cleaning and retrofit their equipment. The tanks on washing vehicles are removed and replaced with salt and sand spreaders.

Winter equipment is being installed, with most vehicles fitted with snow plows. All vehicles undergo inspections and preventive maintenance. After preparation, the specialized equipment will be tested on the enterprise's premises.

The 'City Roads' enterprise has at its disposal snow removal machines, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, 'Globus' snow plows, loaders, combined road machines, and other equipment. A total of 104 units of equipment and 560 workers will be involved in snow removal and ice control during the 2025-2026 winter season.

As of December 4, the equipment is already prepared for winter use.

The enterprise is also preparing anti-ice sand-salt mixtures. In case of worsening weather conditions, the enterprise is stocked with 10,363 tons of reagents for treating road surfaces.

'City Roads' has developed 17 routes for snow removal equipment to ensure prompt clearing of roads from snow drifts and to eliminate ice. Additionally, 54 routes are designated for salting streets to reduce hazards during icy conditions.

Starting December 1, 2025, round-the-clock shifts have traditionally begun for 'City Roads' crews to respond quickly to deteriorating weather. The duty rooms are ready, and the staff servicing the equipment are provided with winter clothing.
