The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with a group of Italian parliamentarians led by Deputy Speaker Giorgio Mulè. The Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, was also present.
During the dialogue, it was emphasized that Italy is actively supporting the restoration of Odesa. The parliamentarians came to personally familiarize themselves with the city, its landmarks, assess the scale of destruction, and determine specific recovery needs.
They also discussed promising areas for attracting investments, particularly in culture. Italians believe that history cannot be erased, regardless of its nature.
«History evolves, and we must grow with it, accepting all its facets. Many operas in Italy were written during fascism, yet that does not deter us from visiting or preserving them. Art belongs to the world!» - shared Giorgio Mulè.
Italian MPs expressed solidarity with the mayor and Odesa citizens in preserving their heritage, which has earned Odesa the status of a UNESCO literary city.
