The Odesa City Council has approved an updated program now titled «Accessible Odesa».

Among the main changes is the plan to open a beach for individuals with disabilities at the 11th station of the Big Fountain this year.

Odesa's Mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, stated that the preliminary estimate for capital works is 21.3 million UAH. During the session on February 5, funds were allocated for the development of project documentation to provide more accurate figures.

The last renovation of the beach took place in 2019. The harsh marine environment requires repairs to the ramp, beach stairs, and a new decking. Additionally, the medical point and restrooms will be renovated along with the upgrade of the sewage system.

«Our resort city is currently the only one that offers conditions for marine rehabilitation of individuals with limited mobility, including our veterans who have lost limbs in the war and children with disabilities», said Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The mayor also reminded that plans for the new recreation season include implementing an inclusive sports playground at the «Dolphin» beach, a decision already approved by the Executive Committee.

Trukhanov added that the municipality aims to establish a strong rehabilitation base in Southern Ukraine. As part of the program, equipment will be purchased for over 20 million UAH to equip rehabilitation departments in hospitals and 1.2 million UAH for creating inclusive wards in other healthcare facilities.

Furthermore, one of the program points suggests expanding the capabilities of the city service «Social Taxi» to transport individuals with mobility impairments.
