The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held an online meeting with Mainz Mayor Nino Haaze.

During the discussion, both parties explored the process of signing a partnership agreement between the cities.

This decision has already received backing from the city councils of both Odesa and Mainz.

The dialogue participants also discussed potential areas for collaboration, particularly in culture, social issues, bioenergy, and the IT sector.

Mayor Trukhanov highlighted the significant contribution of Germans to Odesa's rapid development in the early 19th century and expressed hope for a similar trend today.

«Despite the difficult times, we are moving forward by uniting and enhancing our collaboration,» stated the Mayor of Odesa.

Since 2022, Mainz has been welcoming refugees from Ukraine, creating opportunities for their economic and cultural engagement.

Hennadiy Trukhanov expressed gratitude to the German people for their incredible support and shared details about the recent hostile attacks that Odesa has faced.

«The most terrifying aspect of this war is its aim to destroy the civilian population, culture, and authenticity of Ukraine. We are currently providing assistance and are focused on long-term cooperation,» said the Mayor of Mainz.

Mr. Nino Haaze noted that Mainz is the most dynamic city in Germany and sees Odesa in a similar light. The Mainz Mayor also expressed confidence that the partnership agreement between the cities would foster development for both countries.
