According to recent research, Ukrainian children start using the internet as early as five years old, spending an average of one hour online every day. Among teenagers, this figure is significantly higher—79% spend more than three hours daily on the internet. This increase in children's internet usage necessitates heightened attention to their safety.
To combat cyberbullying, fraud, and unwanted content, the "Safe Internet Center" has been established in Ukraine. This initiative is implemented by organizations such as "Magnolia", "La Strada-Ukraine", and "Docudays".
The Center operates in three main areas:
Hotline StopCrime
This service accepts reports about cases of sexual violence against children online, assists in blocking such materials, and collaborates with the international INHOPE network. The StopCrime project is supported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Diya.Education, and the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine to prevent violence against children online.
Support line for children and youth 116111
This national hotline provides psychological and legal assistance to children who are victims of online violence or face other internet threats.
Educational activities
The Center conducts information campaigns for children, parents, educators, law enforcement, and anyone interested in digital hygiene.
Safe Internet Centers are a common practice in EU countries, supported by the Insafe network and the Better Internet for Kids Strategy. The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine collaborates with European partners to create a safe space for children in the online environment.
