On August 29, during the Memorial Day for fallen soldiers, a solemn ceremony took place in Odessa's Taras Shevchenko Park to honor those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine's freedom and independence.
The event was attended by local officials, families of the fallen, veterans, military personnel, community organizations, and clergy.
This year, the Heroes' Alley saw the addition of informational stands bearing the names of 82 more defenders. In total, 552 names have now been immortalized here.
Odessa's Mayor Gennady Trukhanov expressed gratitude to those present: “Each step here reminds us of those who defended our right to live and love. Thanks to the bravery of our defenders, we can enjoy peaceful skies above our city and dream of a better future. Today, we not only honor their memory — we thank them. We thank everyone who stood in defense of Ukraine. We thank the parents who raised such exemplary sons and daughters.”
On Memorial Day, the families of the fallen received financial support amounting to 10,000 hryvnias. Additionally, on Knowledge Day, the children of our Heroes—those whose parents were killed or went missing—will also receive 10,000 hryvnias.
Our city is a family that stands together. May this Alley be a place of strength, where our hearts ache but fill with pride. As we visit it, we know: Ukraine will endure! We will prevail!
