Investigators have completed their preliminary investigation and submitted the case to court. The woman who violated the regulations faces penalties.
The traffic incident occurred in a village of the Lyman community.
During the investigation, it was determined that a 47-year-old local resident driving a «Chery» was not attentive, did not choose a safe speed, and hit a 15-year-old girl who was crossing the road, although she could have avoided the situation.
As a result of the accident, the child sustained injuries including a pelvic fracture, which, according to the forensic expert's conclusion, are classified as medium severity injuries.
The driver of the car was not injured. She was tested for intoxication and was found sober.
During the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was placed in an impound lot, and several expert examinations were ordered.
According to the head of the police station No. 2 of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, Eduard Kolomiiets, sufficient evidence has been gathered, including several expert conclusions, and under the procedural leadership of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Prosecutor's Office, police investigators charged the driver with violating traffic safety rules, resulting in medium severity injuries to the victim. The investigation is concluded, and the indictment under part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been sent to court.
The offender faces up to three years of restriction of liberty and deprivation of the right to drive for up to three years.
We urge drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and remind them of some of them:
- in populated areas, vehicle speed should not exceed 50 km/h;
- actions or inactions of road participants and others should not create danger or obstacles to movement, threatening the life or health of citizens, or causing material damage;
- to ensure road safety, the driver must be attentive, monitor the traffic situation, respond appropriately to changes, and not be distracted while driving.
