First Organ Transplant at Odesa Clinical Hospital

image

In a historic first for the Odesa Clinical Hospital, a multi-organ donation and transplantation has been successfully performed. This was reported by the head of the OVA, Oleg Kiper.
This complex operation saved the lives of three critically ill patients who had been waiting for this opportunity for years.
The donor was a patient who suffered a severe ischemic stroke. When the medical council confirmed brain death, the family made a courageous and noble decision — they consented to the transplantation.

As a result, three individuals received a new lease on life:

  • A 49-year-old former military man — kidney;
  • A 31-year-old internally displaced person from Kherson region — kidney;
  • A 24-year-old patient — heart.

A remarkable effort was carried out by the medical team from the transplantation and dialysis department of the Odesa Clinical Hospital along with colleagues from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine's Heart Institute and the O.O. Shalimov National Scientific Center. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in this noble mission.
