The Odesa Regional Center for Emergency Medical Assistance and Disaster Medicine reports a series of incidents involving children accidentally poisoning themselves with household chemicals and medicines.
«Children left unsupervised may inadvertently consume cleaning agents or tamper with medication bottles, leading to severe consequences», the statement reads.
Recently, a 3-year-old boy ingested a household cleaner and suffered a chemical burn in his mouth, requiring hospitalization. A 1-year-old girl bit into an eye drop bottle and ended up in the hospital with acute oral poisoning. Another girl, aged 1 year, accidentally drank a grease cleaning product and was hospitalized with suspected esophageal burns.
Additionally, twin boys aged 1 year and 3 months were poisoned by a rodenticide. Their condition is stable, and they were hospitalized for observation.
The emergency medical center urges parents to monitor their children closely, explain the dangers of unknown substances, and keep medications and household chemicals out of reach. If poisoning or burns are suspected, it's crucial to call 103 immediately, as every minute counts in saving a child's life.
