The Odesa National University named after I. Mechnikov, with the support of the «Donor Odesa» project, held the initiative «160 Blood Donors for ONU's 160th Anniversary».
The event was organized with the involvement of the university administration and the trade unions of staff and students. Medical professionals from the Odesa Regional Blood Transfusion Station facilitated the mobile donations.
The campaign was conducted in two phases, with the first phase concluding in the spring. The second phase was dedicated to World Kindness Day in November, taking place on November 13 and 14 at two locations: in the Kyiv district at the Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology, and in the Primorsky district at the Department of Health and Safety and Natural Education.
«The donation campaign continued even during blackouts. Despite the power outage at one location, we activated a generator to ensure the necessary equipment operated. Each drop of blood contributes to saving our defenders who, at the cost of their own lives, protect our freedom and independence,» said the initiative's initiator, Associate Professor Vadim Penov.
Thanks to collective efforts, more than 170 people donated blood at ONU. The campaign included not just students and staff, but also their family members who expressed a desire to donate and support Ukraine.
Moreover, ONU students and faculty engaged in extensive educational work to spread awareness about the importance of blood donation on social media.
Each blood donation can save up to three lives.
Kindness starts with us. Kindness saves lives.
