OpenAI has launched a new streamlined version of the deep research feature in ChatGPT. This option is available to all users for free, although it comes with usage limits.

For paying subscribers, the simplified version will automatically activate upon reaching the usage limit of the full deep research tool. "Responses will be shorter while maintaining the same depth and quality you are accustomed to," — states OpenAI.

The tool is based on the o4-mini model — a simplified version of the larger o4 model, which allows for reduced processing costs. As a result, this enables OpenAI to increase usage limits.
