On Wednesday, May 14, Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) unveiled its latest marine drones for the first time, which have already proven effective by destroying Russian ships, planes, and helicopters, as reported by a Kyiv Post journalist who attended the event at a secret location in the capital.

The Magura marine drones represent cutting-edge technological weaponry that has allowed the GUR's special unit Group 13 to significantly alter the situation in the Black Sea.

Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, head of the GUR, was also present at the secret presentation.

This was the first public demonstration of the series of strike marine drones Magura:

  • The renowned Magura V5 drone, Ukraine's primary unmanned vehicle in the fight against the Russian fleet, capable of carrying up to 320 kg of payload and equipped with a combat module featuring a machine gun.
  • The multifunctional platform Magura V6P, with a range of up to 540 nautical miles.
  • The missile-carrying drone Magura V7, which for the first time in history destroyed an enemy combat aircraft, able to carry up to 650 kg of payload with a range of up to 800 nautical miles.
  • The Magura V7 model fitted with a combat machine gun module.

The Magura marine drones have become a powerful technological weapon that has strategically shifted the situation in the Black Sea in favor of Ukraine.

The operators present at the event assure that this is just the beginning for the Russian fleet, emphasizing that the future of warfare lies in advanced technologies.

“We can confidently state that the GUR of Ukraine, Group 13, have driven the Black Sea fleet of the Russian Federation back to their bases.

They are limited in their actions and are not fulfilling any assigned tasks,” said the commander of Group 13, known by the call sign “Thirteenth”.

“On December 31, 2024, I believe a turning point occurred in the history of the fleet – two Russian Mi-8 helicopters were destroyed, one was damaged. Also, as you know, we destroyed two aircraft,” he added.

In two years of combat usage of various modifications of the Magura marine drone, the Ukrainian military intelligence has destroyed or incapacitated 17 Russian naval and aerial targets, including two Mi-8 helicopters, two Su-30 fighters, as well as major ships of the Russian Black Sea fleet – “Sergiy Kotov”, “Ivanovets”, “Tsesar Kunikov”, and others. The total losses of the enemy are estimated at over 500 million dollars.

The Russian fleet continues to unlawfully operate in Ukrainian waters, primarily in the area of temporarily occupied Crimea.

Ukrainian forces regularly strike at the military ships and bases of the Russian Black Sea fleet, utilizing precision missiles, marine drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles. These strikes have forced Russia to partially withdraw some vessels from Crimea to Novorossiysk.
