The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Thursday, May 15, extended warm wishes to Ukrainians on the occasion of Embroidery Day and Family Day.
Both leaders highlighted the cultural significance of embroidery and the importance of family values in today's world.
Zelensky’s Greetings on Embroidery Day and Family Day
“Today, we reflect on something very important: our roots and our family. These meanings converge on this special date. Each pattern of Ukrainian embroidery symbolizes the strength of our traditions and history. It’s a connection passed down through generations, which we must cherish,” Zelensky explained.
The President also emphasized the importance of preserving national heritage: “We will ensure that we save and pass on our Ukrainian heritage to future generations.”
“Happy Embroidery Day and Family Day, Ukraine!” – the President added.
Shmyhal on Embroidery Day
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that wearing embroidery sends a message to the world that Ukraine is alive and carries its culture.
“Embroidery is the code of resilience for the Ukrainian people. It identifies us as Ukrainians and shows our belonging to a nation of strength and freedom. By wearing embroidery, we are not just preserving traditions – we are proclaiming to the world that Ukraine lives in our hearts and carries its culture through the ages,” he stressed.
Denys Shmyhal also reminded that Embroidery Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of May.
