At railway stations across Ukraine, the symbolic Flag of Hope has been raised.
This flag represents unwavering faith in the return of our defenders who are held captive and serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives in captivity. This initiative has been realized thanks to the collaboration between Ukrzaliznytsia and a charitable foundation established by Ukrainian Heroes, including Serhiy Volynskyi.
In the early days of the war, Ukrzaliznytsia's cars witnessed tears and hope. They provided temporary shelter and a pathway to safety for many Ukrainians. It is symbolic that this flag is raised over the country's railway stations.
“Today we raise the Flag of Hope to remind everyone: we will not stop until every captive and every missing person returns home. The black stripe symbolizes loss, while the white represents hope and the unyielding fight for our own. Together, these colors merge into a single canvas that symbolizes the resilience of our struggle for every Ukrainian who is still away from home. Ukraine awaits its heroes, everyone held captive by the enemy. The Flag of Hope serves as a daily reminder to the nation and the world about every Ukrainian prisoner of war and the missing. This flag will fly until we welcome all our comrades back to their homeland. I am confident that the state will do everything possible to bring each of them back,” stated Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Volynskyi.
“Forty of our railway colleagues are still in captivity. More than four hundred are missing. We believe that each of them, every Ukrainian, will return home. We want this initiative to inspire everyone – whether private businesses or public institutions – to raise the black-and-white flag in support of all captives. Today, such flags are flying above a hundred of our stations, and we want to see them in the thousands. And then, one day, on a happy and sunny day, we will be able to lower them. Because everyone will come back,” said Oleksandr Pertzovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
