Photography Contest «Wiki Loves Earth» 2025

From July 1 to July 31, 2025, an international photography competition dedicated to natural wonders «Wiki Loves Earth» will take place in Ukraine.

We invite all photography enthusiasts, both amateurs and professionals, to participate in our project to gather stunning images of the natural treasures of our region for illustrating the global encyclopedia — Wikipedia.

The primary aim of the event is to showcase the unparalleled beauty of Ukraine’s nature reserves, filling gaps in the visual representation of our parks, reserves, and other natural landmarks.

About the event

• «Wiki Loves Earth» launched in Ukraine in 2013 and quickly gained international recognition. This year, it will be held for the twelfth time, uniting thousands of enthusiasts from around the world.
• Approximately 9,000 objects of Ukraine's natural reserve fund are featured in the contest. Over time, participants have uploaded around 115,000 photos of more than 5,000 natural landmarks, but nearly 40% of them still lack any photos in Wikimedia Commons. This is a unique opportunity for residents of Odesa to showcase the natural wealth of our region.

Important participation conditions for 2025

Given the security situation, the following restrictions have been established regarding the date of photo creation:

• For regular photos — taken by May 31, 2025 (inclusive).
• For drone and aerial photos — taken by February 23, 2022 (inclusive).
• Nominations and awards

The contest will traditionally feature two main categories:

• Quantity: awards will be given to participants who photograph the largest number of unique natural landmarks.
• Quality: a professional jury will select the best photographs from each region, and later — the top 10 photos from Ukraine.

Additionally, special nominations will be included:

• «Video»: for video materials about natural landmarks.
• «Nature Losses»: a special nomination in partnership with environmental organizations, dedicated to documenting the damage inflicted on nature reserves due to aggression, natural disasters, or human impact.

Top photographers will receive valuable prizes from the organizers, and the 15 best works will represent Ukraine at the international stage.
