Odessa — a city with a rich cultural heritage, featuring over 2000 architectural monuments and significant sites.
Many of these require adaptation to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, along with his advisor on barrier-free spaces, Oleksiy Morozov, held a meeting with UNDP representative and architect Artem Moiseenko, an expert in contextual inclusivity.
The city intends to apply for a competition for barrier-free route projects. During the discussions, special attention was given to tourist routes in the historic city center.
Topics included the establishment of adapted movement routes, installation of navigational elements, ramps, and handrails to facilitate comfortable and safe use of urban spaces for people with diverse needs.
Specifically, the meeting participants examined improving the full architectural accessibility of the Odessa City Council building.
