Travel Across Ukraine: New Opportunities for Citizens

image

In just three weeks since the launch of the «3000 km Across Ukraine» initiative, thousands of Ukrainians have already taken advantage of this opportunity, purchasing over 40,000 train tickets. This equates to transporting passengers in around 740 sleeper cars or 1,111 compartment cars.

Among the more than 20 available routes, the most popular are:

  • Fastiv — Konotop
  • Odesa — Zaporizhzhia
  • Kyiv / Zhmerinka — Shostka
  • Zaporizhzhia — Lviv
  • Sumy — Rakhiv

The «3000 km Across Ukraine» program is part of the state initiative «Winter Support». The first trains under this program were launched on December 5. Initially, the program focuses on routes to and from frontline communities.
As noted by Oleksii Kuleba, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, support is planned to be expanded nationwide.
“In off-peak periods, Ukrzaliznytsia will be able to offer around 250,000 seats per month. This creates conditions for travel for Ukrainians, where affordable prices are a key factor, and additionally reduces the load on peak travel times” - the Minister stated.
Free travel within the 3,000 km initiative is available during off-peak periods and focuses primarily on routes leading to frontline communities. Tickets can be purchased through the Ukrzaliznytsia app.
The program aims to support residents of communities located near the front line and also allows for a more even distribution of passenger flow and more efficient use of existing railway resources. Pilot routes were determined based on an analysis of train occupancy, with a particular emphasis on the needs of frontline regions. The implementation of the program occurs without attracting additional funds from the state budget.
