At the beginning of October, during a patrol in Izmail, police officers discovered a 63-year-old man engaging in illegal fishing at Lake Katlabug near the village of Utkonosivka.
This was reported by the police.
During the operation, law enforcement seized from the offender a boat, a 150-meter-long net, and 69 fish, including crucian carp, carp, grass carp, bream, and pike. The caught fish were handed over to a specialized enterprise for storage during the preliminary investigation.
According to the results of an ecological examination, the damage caused to the state amounted to nearly 209 thousand hryvnias.
The fisherman admitted his guilt and explained that he was aware of the ban on fishing with nets but still chose to use them for his own needs.
During the preliminary investigation, overseen by the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office, police established all circumstances of the offense, gathered sufficient evidence, and charged the individual with illegal fishing that caused significant damage. The indictment was forwarded to court under part 1 of article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by this article is three years of restriction of liberty.
