On November 1st, Ukraine commemorates those who suffered from repression, with candles lit in cemeteries.
A solemn event was held in Odesa involving candle lighting and flower laying at the 6th kilometer of the Ovidiopol Road.
This initiative was dedicated to the memory of the victims of mass political repression in the 1930s, during which thousands of lives were lost, including many Poles.
The event was attended by Odesa's mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, the Consul General of Poland in Odesa Jacek Gocłowski, as well as representatives of the Polish community.
The mayor briefed the newly appointed consul on the history of this tragic site and the activities that had been carried out before the war to honor the memory of repression victims.
During the dialogue, it was noted that Poland is aware of this place and appreciates the respect shown by Odesans towards the memory of the victims.
Mr. Gocłowski emphasized that the consulate, the diaspora, and Poland will provide support for the project after Ukraine's victory.
