On August 27, the Central City Library named after Ivan Franko hosted the awards ceremony for the laureates and participants of the IV municipal competition.
This event was dedicated to the birthday of the prominent Ukrainian writer, philosopher, and public figure I. Ya. Franko.
In 2024, the competition, which involved authors from various regions, is being held for the fourth time.
The laureates of the competition are:
in the category of “Journalism”:
- Vyacheslav Kushnir (Odesa, “Through the Pages of Newspapers and Facebook”);
- Eduard Amchislavsky (New York, “Actors, Cinema, Odesa…”);
in the category of “Prose”:
- Volodymyr Shevchenko-Vasylenko (Kremenchuk, “The Boat of Grief Floats”);
- Iryna Feofanova (Irpin, “Stranger, Native”);
in the category of “Poetry”:
- Oksana Lozova (Lviv, “Time Doesn’t Pass”), along with her son Vasyl Lozovyi, co-authored the collection “We Are!”;
- Yuriy Ostrovershenko (Vradievka, a collection of poems “Whip”);
in the category of “Promotion of Ivan Franko’s Work”:
- Denys Rudyi (Odesa, second prize, script for the literary-musical concert “Withered Leaves”),
- Olesya Franko (Kalush, first prize, local history tour “Franko City”).
A special recognition from the Franko Library was awarded to Vasyl Dobryansky, a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine and author of historical and detective novels from Ivano-Frankivsk.
The director of the Centralized Library System for Adults, Natalia Klykova, received a certificate of honor from the Odesa District Council.
The event concluded with performances by students and teachers of the Odesa Art School No. 1 named after Hillel and literary award winner Svitlana Lukina.
On Ivan Franko’s birthday, library staff and fans of the writer’s work laid flowers at his monument.

The literary competition was established in 2021 to mark the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian writer, philosopher, and public figure I. Franko.
