Modern society is increasingly focused on establishing an inclusive educational environment where everyone, regardless of physical or mental characteristics, can realize their potential. Accessibility in education is a fundamental component of this process.
For individuals with special educational needs, accessibility is not just an important aspect but a crucial prerequisite for receiving quality and inclusive education. It involves creating conditions where people with disabilities do not face barriers in accessing knowledge.
As part of the City Target Program "Equality" for 2023-2025, which will soon be renamed "Barrier-Free Odessa," and the Action Plan for implementing the National Strategy for creating a barrier-free space in Ukraine until 2030, efforts are underway to:
- install ramps;
- carry out major renovations of restrooms in educational institutions in Odessa to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities;
- provide kindergartens and general secondary education institutions with Wi-Fi access;
- ensure high-speed internet and computer equipment for organizing distance learning for vulnerable category students;
- train medical and educational staff in educational institutions to provide first aid to students with special educational needs (including epilepsy, etc.);
- organize educational activities for teachers and parents of students to foster a positive climate in educational institutions attended by children with special educational needs.
