In a village in the Odesa region, a 50-year-old woman accidentally pulled the trigger of an air rifle while attempting to hide it and injured her 5-year-old granddaughter. This was reported by the National Police.

Yesterday, on April 20, medical staff informed the police about the hospitalization of the girl with injuries to her lower jaw and neck at the Odesa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. During the investigation, it was determined that the woman from the Izmail district decided to conceal her son’s air rifle from her grandchildren, and accidentally fired it, hitting her granddaughter who was nearby.

The police have registered the details of the child's injury in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to careless infliction of serious or moderate bodily harm. The maximum penalty for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.

"As part of the proceedings, a number of forensic examinations have been appointed, and all circumstances of the event are being established. The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office" - the statement said.
