Every year on the third Sunday of May, the World AIDS Memorial Day is observed. On the eve of this significant day, a memorial event took place in the Starobazarny Square near the AIDS memorial, featuring healthcare professionals and representatives from NGOs working against HIV.

Participants planted flowers and tied red ribbons, symbolizing their commitment to continuing the fight against the AIDS epidemic.

On this memorial day, not only is the memory of those who have died honored, but discussions about life and hope also take center stage. Ukraine remains among the countries with the highest rates of HIV infection in Europe.

However, today, individuals with HIV can lead fulfilling lives thanks to modern antiretroviral therapies that reduce viral load and allow for healthy children.

The city authorities of Odessa have been actively working for many years to combat the spread of HIV within the framework of the global Fast Track Cities initiative, having signed the Paris Declaration.

All medical facilities in the city offer free HIV testing, with confidential results available within 15 minutes. Funds are allocated from the city budget to purchase rapid tests, and multidisciplinary teams assist patients in accessing necessary therapy and social services upon diagnosis.
